Prohibited items may not be 'given away' in connection with the purchase of permitted items. This means: no posters, no t-shirts, no CDs, no DVDs, no hats, etc. Camp Democracy will attempt to work out an arrangement with permited street vendors to sell other items, and we will post here soon information on how you can apply for a permit to sell other items.
Lead Organizations
These organizations will be prominently listed and linked to as such and entitled to table Sept. 5 - 21, the entire camp, and to participate in or lead providing activities, trainings, workshops, and entertainment on Sept. 9-11. To participate in providing workshops and activities on Sept. 9, 10, 11, please contact the lead organizer of the appropriate tent (to be posted soon).
To be a lead organization, you need to provide at least three of the following four things, in addition to encouraging your members to attend and sending an Email or mail to your members encouraging them to contribute money to Camp Democracy:
1. contribute at least $500,
2. provide activities for at least Sept 9-11,
3. provide staff time between now and Sept. 5th to field inquiries related to an area of expertise, including inquiries from other organizations and individuals who want to assist in the activity area you are leading,
4. lead a partial or half-day of the camp or lead a day of the camp dedicated to your organization and others working on similar issues (to be a lead organization for more than one day, contribute at least another $500).
or
1. contribute at least $1,000
2. lead a day of the camp dedicated to your organization (including others as possible; but the day is named for/by you and you're in charge). Obviously we will not be able to accomodate every organization that wants to do this, and organizations that cannot commit to producing effective events should not propose sponsoring a day of events. Numerous factors will have to be considered in scheduling the days.
3. (optional) provide activities for other days
Organizations providing activities will not have to pay for the items that the general fund covers, and which is partially funded by the organizations' contributions. These items include tents, bathrooms, stage, multimedia equipment, screen for showing films, etc. Wireless internet will be provided free by New Orleans Voices for Peace.
Banners
Any organizational sponsor, local, state, or national, can contribute an additional $200, and Camp Democracy will produce a large banner with your name on it and display it prominently at the camp for the full length of the camp. After the camp, the banner will be yours to keep.

Overview
The basic model of Camp Democracy is that participating organizations will provide activities and pay their own expenses in doing so, thus limiting the need for Camp Democracy to raise and spend money. However, there will be general expenses, including such costs as tents, portapotties, stage equipment, etc. And we need a way for individuals to contribute large and small amounts, and for small organizations to contribute small amounts, as well as for large organizations to contribute to covering general expenses. We have created a limited liability partnership called Camp Democracy and opened an associated bank account, associated with the PayPal account linked to from this page. This company will not spend a dime it does not have, and will spend every dime it does have on Camp Democracy, at the conclusion of which the company will be shut down.
Organizations can sponsor the camp regardless of their tax status.
Contributions to Camp Democracy will not be tax deductible. However, we will have a strict and public policy of no political candidates campaigning at the camp, and lobbying will be only one limited part of what we do.
Organizations can provide purely educational activities as part of Camp Democracy and treat their own expenses appropriately.
A DAY FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION: Code Pink recently proposed the idea of a Code Pink Day at Camp Democracy. This seems like an excellent idea, and one that we want to expand to other organizations. A given organization could have one of the remaining 16 days named for it. (The name should be a theme, not just the group's name, such as "Women for Peace Day, hosted by Code Pink".) We can also have days focused on particular themes but sponsored by two or three or more organizations. Thus, for example, we might have an Immigrants Rights Day at Camp Democracy Sponsored by ____________, with possibly one organization's name or possibly more than one. Some other ideas for days: Students' Day, Lobbying Day, Nonviolence Training Day, Justice for Katrina Victims Day, Veterans and Military Families Day, Accountability and Impeachment Day, Labor Against the War Day, Clean Energy Day, Democracy in DC Day, Election 2006 Day, etc. We can also have mornings, afternoons, or evenings, rather than full days. Groups should not sponsor more than they actually have the capacity to produce.
Sept. 5 is Opening Day. Sept. 9, 10, 16, and 17 are weekend days. Sept. 9, 10, and 11 are days on which we can be on the Mall near the Capitol. Sept 21 is a day we'll dedicate to the Declaration of Peace, which has scheduled a press event and civil disobedience.
Camp Democracy will have a number of large tents set up at all times, with a variety of activities, workshops, trainings, performances, concerts, etc., so any given issue and organization can be part of every day of the camp, and is not limited to a single day. But the focus of particular days, the main events those days, will be on the topic of the day, led by the organization(s) of the day, and other groups can try to work with that theme to the extent possible.
